Passionate of science communication and having engaged in numerous online UN events, James's journey to UN HLPF officially began with his internship at the Shanghai Typhoon Institute. Apart from storm-chasing missions in the field during the typhoon season, James handled data analysis and translation tasks for reports while building a website to relay real-time predictions.

James was next selected to assist in the authoring of the UN-ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee Strategic Plan by Dr. Tang, leader of STI and AP-TCRC.
With the support of STI and AP-TCRC, James promoted Swarm Thinkers, a student initiative dedicated to building community resilience through scientific communication. He was selected by UNMGCY (Major Group for Children and Youth) as a Youth Delegate representing Swarm Thinkers at the UN.
